Jubilee Daybreak Giclee Print By Jim Gray
Jim's son Chris writes: As a young child living on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay, my first jubilee began when Dad came excitedly into my brother's and my room, in the middle of the night, to wake us and tell us to put on our Keds. He said there was a Jubilee. We found out that this was quite simply the best time we ever had catching flounder, blue crab, and shrimp as they came right to the shore. It seems there are only a few places in the world where the moon phase, tide, and wind can work together to drive fresh water from the river in such a way as to herd the saltwater fish of the Bay ahead of it till they are trapped up against the shore. In the dictionary, jubilee is defined as a celebration. I never saw Mr. Webster down around Daphne or Fairhope, but I guess he must have been there at least once, because he sure knew that a jubilee was one fine celebration.
